weird day

i don't know why, but i spent most of the day in bed!  i just couldn't wake up.  i took nyquil last night because of my sore throat and coughing.  it usually makes me feel a little loopy the next day, but not like i was today!
i slept in until 10:00, laid in bed until 11:00 and then got up and had lunch.  after that i laid back down to watch tv and fell asleep until 2:00!  so then i made myself get up and take a shower hoping that would wake me up.  it did for a little bit, but then i snuggled up beside colby (who has strep throat AGAIN or STILL) who was laying in my bed watching chicken little.  before i knew it i was asleep again and stayed that way until 6:00!  i could have easily gone back to sleep, but daryl was at the church and the boys needed supper.  so i made myself get up.  even as i sit here typing, i am yawning!  this is just so weird!

either the medications i normally take have interacted with the cold and allergy medicines, or i'm really sicker than i feel.  whatever the reason, i don't like being this tired!  i feel like i totally wasted my day.

student leader

today at our last spirit assembly, spencer received the first ever park lane student leader award.  i don't know how this award came to be, but the principal said some really nice things about spencer.  she complimented him on what a great leader he was on safety patrol and in the classroom.  i was so proud that my eyes started to leak!  i had no idea he was getting this award!

kindergarten not-graduation

photo of the day #126
congratulations
tonight was the annual kindergarten celebration.  the kids same some cute songs followed by a video with lots and lots of pictures.  whoever made the video did a great job!  then the kids got to walk across the stage and receive their "diploma" which actually turned out to be a certificate for a free ice cream cone from sonic!  that's way better than a diploma!

jewelry designers

tonight our 1st-5th graders at church made some awesome bracelets for their moms for mother's day. {if you are one of those moms, sorry i ruined the surprise!  just pretend you had no idea when you get it on sunday!}

much to my surprise, the boys actually made some of the neatest bracelets!  spencer really made a cool one.  too bad it's not for HIS mom!  he made bracelets for his teachers for teacher appreciation week.  that's ok.  i'm glad he wanted to do that for them.

A donut
yesterday's poop adventure plumb wore me out, so i have nothing exciting to report tonight! thank goodness!

one of my students had a birthday today, and his parents brought donuts unlike any donuts i'd ever seen before....they spelled out Happy Birthday Christian!  how cool is that?  he let me pick the letter i wanted, so of course i took my favorite letter in my favorite color!  before i took a bite, i dug my camera out of my purse to take a picture.  his parents were still in my classroom, and they kind of game me a weird look.  so one of my students kindly explained, "don't worry.  mrs. hayes takes random pictures!"  even my students know me!

and not only was the donut super cute to look at, it was yummers!!  it was probably one of the best donuts i've ever eaten, and i am not a huge donut fan!

scared poopless

H....O....L....Y   C....O....W!!!!!!!

have you ever tried to give a guinea pig a bath????? it's definitely not as easy as you might think! i'd rather give a dog a bath!

so this evening i was playing on the computer and holding our new guinea pig, squirt.  he'd only been in my arms for a few moments when i realized he smelled wretched.  there was no way i could hold him any longer.  daryl was cleaning out his cage and putting down fresh wood chips, so i thought he should be clean when he got back into his tidy cage.

i should have realized that when he bit me twice while the water was warming up that this was NOT going to be a pleasant event.  i just figured the sound of running water was a little scary to him. apparently, i was right!

the minute i put him in the kitchen sink and started sprinkling him with water, his cute little squeaks turned into scary little moans.  no kidding!  and then the weirdest thing of all is he started pooping in the sink!!!!  every time i got him wet or he moved, turds came out!  he was like a broken PEZ dispenser!!!

bathtime scares the poop out of squirt
of course each time a poo came out, i hollered about how gross that was, and soon the varmints were watching, laughing hysterically!
when it was finally over, colby snuggled him in a towel and said, "aww...poor squirt.  i'm sorry my mom did that to you."  whatever!  i'm not the one who kept pooping in the sink!

after that daryl and i made tacos for supper.  it was nice having him in the kitchen with me.  then we all played a couple of games of blokus {spencer won both times!}
we were going to play another game, but spencer and colby couldn't agree on what to play.  so i decided to go outside  and take a quick walk before it started raining again.  of course i was quickly followed by two little varmints!

i had no idea that the sky would be so beautiful!  i thanked god for sending me outside at just the right time.  in the east was a double rainbow, and in the west was a gorgeous sunset!

i took lots of pictures {imagine that!}, and after a while the clouds moved just enough to reveal the moon above the rainbow!  have you ever seen the moon and a rainbow together?

a boy and his mom...

photo of the day #122
a boy and his mom...
daryl's mom spent the weekend with us.  she is so awesome!  she stayed with the boys not once, but twice, so daryl and i could spend some time together...alone!

i've never met a man who loves his mother more than daryl.  he has so much respect and admiration for her.  you'll NEVER him say anything bad about her.  she's such a kind and giving person, there's really nothing bad to say about her!

i hope one day that my boys will have that much love and respect for me.

date with my man

today i got to go on a day-long date with a very handsome man!!!  grandma watched the varmints while daryl and i went treasure hunting in bartlesville, oklahoma.
photo of the day #121
funny water towers!

we never actually found any treasures in bartlesville, but sheer dumb luck landed us right on the main street of downtown dewey where the annual old car show was happening.  the downtown area was blocked off and old cars were everywhere!

i bet we went in 5 antique/junk shops all within 2 blocks of each other!  the first shop we walked took my breath away....i opened the door and there was junk from floor to ceiling!  they even had stuff crammed in drawers of the furniture they were selling!  daryl found a really cool old lamp for his office in that store.

i had a doll like this when i was growing up!  daryl thought it was creepy~the head of a doll and the body of a stuffed animal!  i'm not a doll person AT ALL, but i always thought she was cute!

another store had this beautiful box of buttons!  daryl actually spotted this for me.  can you believe i dug around in there and only found 1 button?  unbelievable... daryl bought an old radio and a cute little gumball machine for the boys to put their marbles.  there were lots of other things i could have bought in there if i was loaded with money, but it was still fun to look!

we drove back into bartlesville to eat lunch at a chinese super buffet place that we saw on our way into town.  the varmints don't like chinese so we figured this was our chance to enjoy it.  the food was amazing!  we both ate way too much!  ahhh.......hunan!
